The Royal Brighton Pavilion has to be the greatest on shore landmark in Brighton. Its bizarre Indian style domes and Chinese themed décor seem far too exotic for the English seaside and certainly draws in plenty of inquisitive visitors as one of the areas top attractions. Once inside you’ll be bowled over by the impressive interior decorated with opulent chandeliers and a vast quantity of antiques, make it easy to imagine why it appealed so much to the young Prince Regent, later known as George IV, who made it his playground. The must see sights include the fully laid out banqueting hall and the shell covered domed ceiling.

Brighton is lucky enough to have two piers stretching out from its seafront. The original West Pier is a Grade I listed structure that has been closed to the public since 1975 following a huge storm, but is now undergoing major restoration under the care of the West Pier Trust to bring it back to its former glory. The more modern Brighton Pier is further east along the coast and is the familiar British pleasure pier complete with fast food stalls, fairground rides and a huge amusement arcade.

For a charming example of an Edwardian manor house take a trip out to Preston Manor to view a perfectly preserved example of Edwardian living. You’ll see the splendour of the main house with a stunning collection of silverware and china, right through to the servant living quarters and kitchen giving a fascinating insight into life circa 1905.

Brighton’s Museum and Art Gallery has just reopened after a major overhaul and is now better than ever. The museum section details both the local history of the area as well as collections of wider national interest, whilst the art gallery boasts a calendar of some of the country’s finest temporary exhibitions. Themed galleries include Fashion & Style, 20th Century Art & Design, Fine Art, the Body, Performance and 19th Century Ceramics.

The Sea-Life Centre is a great place to keep the kids occupied for a few hours. There’s an intriguing 60-foot undersea tunnel where you’ll get a chance to see rays and sharks, the other must see sight is the Adventures at 20,000 Leagues exhibit, that will entertain all ages, adults included.
